Embracing Your New Tattoo: How to Care for and Show Off Your Ink

Person gently washing a fresh tattoo at a sink

Proper aftercare protects the artist’s effort and your investment. Follow a simple routine and adjust it to your lifestyle.

The first 48 hours

Leave the artist’s bandage on for the recommended time, then wash with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap. Pat dry with a clean towel and apply a thin layer of approved ointment.

Weeks one and two

Moisturise two to three times daily with unscented lotion. Avoid soaking, pools, and direct sunlight. Wear loose, breathable fabrics and resist the urge to scratch or pick at peeling skin.

Showing off responsibly

Wait until the tattoo is fully healed before scheduling professional photos or heading to the beach. When you do share images online, credit your artist and tag the studio.

Long-term care

Apply SPF daily, schedule touch-ups with your artist if needed, and keep skin hydrated. Small habits preserve linework and colour saturation for years.

A consistent routine keeps your tattoo looking as crisp and meaningful as the day it was created.
